Bio

So, I’m 37 years old. I currently live in South Lake Tahoe with my two pups, Potter and Penny. I was born in Denver, went to school at Colorado State University, then started writing in 2003 when I graduated. I knew I wanted to be a writer since I was 12, but didn’t get around to writing until after college. My first book, Unforeseen, which some of you may have read, was written by a very immature 22-year-old. Sometimes when I pick it up, I cringe at the writing, but I must admit Thomas is especially funny in that one. My favorite line is when Thomas has just jumped off the cliff into the water and his FBI nemesis, Todd Gregory, asks if it’s okay to jump, whereby, Thomas yells, “Not yet! It’s adult swim.” I’m pretty sure I fell out of my chair laughing when I wrote that. And actually, that laughter, that pure joy of creation, is why I do what I do. When I do a book talk or when I’m just chatting with someone about the craft, I find myself telling them things that I would want to know, if say, I was having a conversation with John Grisham. So here are a couple tidbits that you might find interesting. My favorite five books are, in order; To Kill a Mockingbird, The Giver, Ender’s Game, The Testament, and Plum Island. Many authors have shaped my writing style, but I put three writers on a pedestal; John Grisham, Nelson DeMille, and Michael Crichton. The first two authors are basically the antithesis of one another. John Grisham’s stories are so good (he is simply the best storyteller to ever live) that you don’t care that his characters don’t jump off the page. And Nelson DeMille’s characters are so grand and hilarious that you don’t care what happens in the story. John Corey could go grocery shopping and it would be entertaining. And last, Michael Crichton (RIP), who somehow brought sci-fi into the mainstream and I cherish him for that. I'm not Thomas Prescott, though I have the same sense of humor. My temperament is more like Maddy’s (who if you don’t know, is kind of a weenie.) God is a big part of my life and I am so blessed and lucky to have received such a kick ass gift. Love that guy.
