After many years of peace the Huxley Starship is launched and humanity celebrates a new age of intergalactic connectivity. But when the ship suddenly switches course and unexpectedly heads back towards Earth, the planet soon realizes their years of peace may be over, and its entire civilization is at risk of annihilation.

This stand alone short story is meant to offer background information to The Broken Earth Saga books. You do not need to read this story to understand the series, but if you're curious as to why the Earth was destroyed to begin with, then this story will catch you up to speed.
